Public Power Week
Redding Electric Utility celebrated the 20th anniversary of Public Power Week from October 1-7, 2006. REU spent the first two days at the Mount Shasta Mall and the rest of the week in the main lobby of the City of Redding Civic Center talking with our customers about the advantages of being a "Community Owned...Locally Controlled" utility. All customers were very positive about our Locally Controlled utility. The interaction with all of our wonderful customers/partners was great. REU disseminated information as to what services each REU Division provides. Some examples of the handouts were: our green power sources, energy saving tips, rebate options, reliability information, and Customer Service programs for our customers. We also gave away energy saving night lights, water bottles, pens and pads. To show our appreciation to our Electric customers, we gave away four $250 vouchers to purchase an Energy Star appliance, and a grand prize of a $500 voucher for an Energy Star appliance. The free cookies were very popular. We had a standoff between a 12 year old 25 cubic foot refrigerator and a new Energy Star 25 cubic foot refrigerator. The new Energy Star WON hands down using approximately 25 percent of the energy needed to keep the food cold in the old refrigerator. Customers were amazed with the savings (75%) on the new Energy Star refrigerator. REU appreciates the opportunity to interact with our customers and we are proud of our history of providing competitive power rates and great reliability.
