  • Saturday June 19th, 2010 - The 10th Annual City of Redding Energy Fair was celebrated at the Sundial Bridge on June 19, 2010. By all accounts, the 10th Annual event was a tremendous success. More than 50 exhibitors showcased the latest in energy and water saving technologies. REU estimates between 4,000 and 5,000 community members visited the Fair, the exhibitors and the many activities for children. Click here to watch the video.

  • Thursday April 22nd, 20y10 - Energy Services recognized Earth Day by participating in two celebrations commemorating the day. The Redding Rancheria hosted an event on April 22, where REU demonstrated the energy efficiency of CFL’s as a booth vendor. On April 25, a consortium of community members from REU, First United Methodist Church, the Shasta Conservation Fund, Shasta – Tehama Shedheads, Sustainable Earth Alliance of Northern California (SCEANC), Western Shasta Resource Conservation District and several others organized the Earth Day/ Watershed Festival at Sculpture Park in front of City Hall. Exhibitors entertained and educated hundreds of kids and families. Music, dancing, food and fun activities rounded out the wholesome day that was free and open to the public. Click here for images.

  • February 27th, 2010 - Redding Electric Utility hosted the 2010 Science Bowl .


  • Tuesday August 25th, 2009 - Since 2005, REU has successfully installed eight small scale thermal energy storage (TES) systems, Ice Energy – Ice Bear units, at various customer sites throughout our service territory. The use of TES systems to shift costly, on-peak demand for air conditioning to off-peak hours has proven to be a cost-effective load shifting resource for REU. The Redding City Council recently authorized REU to broaden its reach with “ice” approving the Utility’s purchase of 50 more Ice Bear units.   • Saturday June 13th, 2009 - Redding’s 9th Annual “Solar” Energy Fair was once again a resounding success! REU estimates over 4,000 people attended the event and more than 50 vendors demonstrated technologies from solar energy to high efficiency air conditioners, to Energy Star appliances. The Redding community enjoyed a beautiful June day with a variety of resources and services available to help households and businesses save energy, water and the environment.   • Friday May 29th, 2009 - twelve hydrogen fuel cell vehicles “rolled in to town” for the California Fuel Cell Partnership’s (CAFCP) Hydrogen Road Tour at the Sundial Bridge. The CAFCP in partnership with the City of Redding, Redding Electric Utility (REU) and Turtle Bay Exploration Park hosted Redding’s “Test Drive the Future” event from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sundial Bridge.   • April - May, 2009 - Redding Electric Utility, Shasta College and Shasta Builders’ Exchange teamed up to offer a Green Seminar Series throughout the Spring of 2009. The consortium offered 12 wide-ranging eco-friendly classes from Green Remodeling and Alternative Energy such as Wind and Solar Power to Energy Efficiency, Green Plumbing, Lighting and Recycling.
